The Up And Coming Stakes 2011 will take place at Warwick Farm Racecourse in Sydney on Saturday August 20, 2011.
Run over a distance of 1,300 metres, the 2011 Up And Coming Stakes is open to three-year-old horses only.
The Group 3 Up And Coming Stakes is run under quality handicap conditions and is worth $125,000 in prize money.
This year’s Up And Coming Stakes is sure to feature many of the dominant two-year-olds during last season who are out to make their comeback in the spring carnival as three-year-olds.
Last year’s winner, Blackball, had come through the Group 3 Skyline Stakes, Group 2 Pago Pago Stakes and Group 1 Sires’ Produce Stakes in the previous Sydney autumn and we can expect this year’s runners to have taken a similar path.
One rising three-year-old who had a stellar two-year-old career is Diamond To Pegasus.
Trainer Tony Sergi is planning to run Diamond To Pegasus in the 2011 Up And Coming Stakes.
“He’ll probably go to the (Listed) Rosebud after this but if for some reason something goes wrong then we’ve still got the San Domenico Stakes up our sleeve three weeks after Saturday’s race,” Sergi said.
“The plan is to also run him in the Up And Coming Stakes over 1300 metres.
Diamond To Pegasus finished a close fourth in the Group 3 Skyline Stakes earlier this year.
Nominations for the Up And Coming Stakes 2011 will be released on Monday August 15, 2011, while the final horse racing fields and barrier draw will be made available on Wednesday August 17, 2011.
