UP AND COMING STAKES
The Up and Coming Stakes is a 1300 metre sprint race for three-year-olds run under quality handicap conditions held every August at Warwick Farm Racecourse in Sydney. It was originally a colts and geldings only race with set weights however in 2011 it changed to the new conditions which also included a distance increase of 100m.
The Group 3 race attracts horses on way to big spring campaigns so the field always includes a high standard of horses competing for the $125,000 in prize money. The quality handicap conditions are designed to put each runner on an even playing field and make the contest as close and exciting as possible.

The Up and Coming Stakes is held on the same day as the Group 3 Warwick Stakes (1400m) and the Group 3 Silver Shadow Stakes (1200m) for three-year-old fillies, which is the sole spring race day held at Warwick Farm.
Lead Up & Follow Up Races
Gallopers that contest the Up and Coming Stakes often continue on to contest the richest race at the Sydney Spring Carnival, the $1 million Golden Rose Stakes (1400m) held the following Saturday at Rosehill.
The Up and Coming Stakes is an ideal follow up race from the Group 3 San Domenico Stakes (1100m) run two weeks earlier at Randwick and works to gradually step up the distance required of the runners.
